Passion

Barossa Valley Brewing’s genesis was far from the lush rolling hills of the Barossa, but in the far away shores of the United States. Denham, our brewery founder, was in University in 1990, (supposed to be) studying Economics and Business but instead, was falling in love with craft beer.  He spent much time with passionate brewers there, falling more deeply in love with this amazing beverage.  Upon coming home, he did what any sensible person would do… he started a brewery.

Quality

We choose the Barossa, as it has an adherence to quality and a culture of experimentation which has allowed it to produce some of the planet’s best beverages. We have learned from the talented people who work and live here to produce world class beers, that sit alongside world class wines.

We work with the best local ingredients – whether that be Barossa roasted coffee, local picked cherries or lemongrass tended by local producers.

Experimentation

All of us at BVB are foodies and enjoy nothing better than pairing great beer with great food.   We wanted to share this joy so in 2011 we moved the entire Brewery about 10 kms north to Tanunda, and started a restaurant and have been sharing the joy ever since.

This is just the start of the story. We keep working hard, experimenting harder and are enjoying great beer with an increasing band of friends.

The road to the can

We originally opened in 2005, at the Chateau Yaldara winery, and later moved into our current home after Denham bought a beautiful old building on the edge of Tanunda. He erected a new building at the rear to house an impressive five vessel Bavarian Brewery Technologies brewhouse from California, fitted an eight tap bar inside the original home and his dream for Barossa Valley Brewing had begun… but by no means complete.

You see, here at BVB we’re big fans of the can. Why? Well, there’s 5 really good reasons to the right but, to round it all up, it just tastes better! This year we partnered with American Beer Equipment, a canning line manufacturer in the US, and have built the newest canning line in Australia right here at our Tanunda brewery, and the only one built by ABE in the Asia-Pacific region. You’ve got to come check it out!

A note from the Brewer…

I left Australia when I was 10, living in 9 countries and 13 cities.  Travel can teach much and lead to great passion.  For me it lead to a love of craft beer.  In the 90s I was studying in the USA, which was going through a craft beer revolution.  What we do today is still based on the love of craft beer which I discovered over 20 years ago, hanging around Brewers in Michigan. They are simple but often lost at corporate headquarters of the major brewing conglomerates that produce 95% of our beer.  These principles are:

1. Never compromise quality.  Use the best ingredients and take no short cuts.

2. Experiment.  Be brave and try things big breweries cannot.

3. Brew for the love of the beer.  Learn to measure success not from coin gained but joy you and your friends get from drinking your beer.

We are forging our own path full of good friends and great beer.  Hope you will join us.
